Resources

HostingRevelations itself runs on a Hostinger Business shared hosting plan. It's my pick for a first website or a small business site, because the entry plans are cheap and the control panel is easy to learn. Watch the renewal price, which is higher than the first term.

I run some of my own websites and client sites on Cloudways, including clients I moved from SiteGround because their sites kept hitting its resource limits. You choose a server from a provider like DigitalOcean or Vultr, and Cloudways handles the server setup, updates, caching and backups. It costs more than shared hosting, but you get your own server resources.

For projects where I want full control of the server, I use Vultr directly. As a freelancer, I've migrated sites to Vultr servers, configured them and built web applications on them. It suits you if you're comfortable with Linux and the command line.

Where I register domains. WHOIS privacy is included for free on domains registered there, so your contact details stay out of the public WHOIS record.

What I use for keyword research and to see which pages a site ranks for. It's a paid tool, so it's worth it once you publish regularly and want to grow your search traffic.

The theme HostingRevelations used when it ran on WordPress. It's lightweight and loads fast, which makes it a good base if you build your site on WordPress.

The caching plugin HostingRevelations used on WordPress, alongside GeneratePress. It handles page caching and file optimization without much setup.
